The Canary Islands Institute of Technology (ITC) hosted on 27 November the second partners’ meeting of the IDIWATER project, a key event to review the progress achieved during its first year of implementation.
The session was opened by the ITC, the coordinating entity of the project, which welcomed participants and presented the day’s agenda. This was followed by an overview of IDIWATER’s progress, highlighting major technical milestones and the strong performance of project indicators. The work carried out by the partners was also acknowledged, as the project’s financial execution is fully aligned with the programme’s requirements.
During the meeting, the different partners presented the results obtained in several ongoing tasks, including: water demand forecasting, advanced sensor systems for desalination plants, design models for off-grid facilities, new brine valorisation processes, and innovative systems for water treatment and control. Updates were also provided on technical training activities and the preliminary report on women’s participation in R&D&I projects within the water sector.
The meeting also featured a technical visit to ELMASA’s facilities, where attendees were able to see the project’s associated pilot plant first-hand, as well as the Maspalomas I desalination plant.
Among the agreements reached were the joint update of technical documentation—crucial for the preparation of the upcoming implementation report—and the planning of the next expenditure certification, scheduled for May 2026.
The IDIWATER project, linked to the DESAL+ Living Lab platform and co-funded by the INTERREG MAC 2021–2027 Programme, continues to establish itself as a benchmark initiative in water innovation, sustainability, and the application of advanced technologies to the water cycle in the Canary Islands.
