Group: Research on Renewable Energy Systems (GREES) – Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC)
GREES is a research group of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from the 1980’s. Numerous research projects funded by the European Commission, the Spanish Government and the Government of the Canary Islands.
The group carries out research works in the field of renewable energy systems for public administrations and companies: Municipalities, Island Government, Government of the Canary Islands, Power utility, renewable energies companies, Technological Institute of the Canary Islands.
The member of the group publish articles in the best scientific journals (indexed JCR) in the area and books in scientific editorials: Energy, Applied Energy, Renewable Energy, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Desalination, Energy Conversion & Management, Policy Energy, Solar Energy, The Energy Journal, Renewable Energies; Elsevier, Pearson, CRC Press, Woodhead Publishing. The group is classified as A+ (High productivity).

Julieta Schallenberg Rodriguez, Coordinator of the Research Line “Marine Renewables”
Doctor and Industrial Engineer (PhD thesis and final master thesis on renewable energies). Currently professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), where she has been working for the last 16 years. Former Project Manager at the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) for 13 years, “Research and Development Division”. Research stages abroad: at the Fraunfofer Institute (Germany), Technological University of Vienna (Austria) and a post-doc stage in the University of Edinburgh (Great Britain), among others. Coordinator of 15 European projects and partner in other 5 European projects, all in the field of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and/or sustainable energy systems. She has been working in the field of RES for nearly 25 years, considering different aspects of RES deployment, from technical aspects to non-technological aspects (e.g. incentives, economics, etc.).
Member of about 15 committees, including being member of the “Energy Advisory Group” of the European Commission, editorial committees, conference organizing and scientific committees, executive committees, etc. Three research awards, including Best PhD thesis Cátedra ENDESA-Red 2013. Numerous scientific publications: 5 books, 3 book chapters and more than 15 articles in journals (9 of them in Q1). Numerous speeches in international congresses. She has directed more than 15 B.Sc. and is directing 10 PhD thesis. Wide experience in project evaluation, for national governments and the European Commission. Independent expert for the European Commission since 2005. Currently member of the “Expert Committee for Climate Change, Blue Economy and Circular Economy” of the Government of the Canary Islands.
